Meaningful Moment

Walked with my first fellow Kerry Way thru hiker this morning.
I met Luic on top of the first mountain out of Caherdaniel. We exchanged hellos and I pressed on.

Later he caught up to me, and we walked for maybe 90 minutes or so, talking about all the things thru hikers talk about. For example, clothes, tents, routes, places seen and places wanting to see.

He is from French New Caledonia in the South Pacific, but now lives in Paris. Interesting backstory.

He veered left to go see a sight, but I have a long day so I'm pressing on.

We ran across each other in town. I was having my salmon lunch and he was looking for a place where he could pitch his tent.

Random Thought of the Day

It's easy to laugh about being tired of walking through hundreds of pastures of sheep until one realizes that each pasture represents some rancher's dreams, hopes, fears and expectations.

Each ranch fence is a metaphor for someone's life out here, on a boundary with someone else doing the same thing but in their own separate world.

Maybe it's not that different from the office cubicle except that the people out here are in touch with mother nature, work with her and against her but always in touch.

On the Road / Notable memories

Breakfast was salami, cheese, porridge and a coffee.
They rather unusual combination, but that's all there was.

I don't have any food in the backpack, so I won't get to eat lunch until I reach almost the end today.

***

In Sneem, I stopped in a store to pick up both supper for tonight and breakfast for tomorrow. Because this is a country bed and breakfast, there are no restaurants or stores nearby. So if I did not bring something with me here, I would have literally nothing to eat.

They do have a microwave here.
So supper and breakfast is five fish sticks with a banana.
I also have a yogurt and granola.
And I have strawberry jam tarts.
Plus a quart of milk.

When you put it all together, doesn't that sound delicious?

Another day on the trail

On top of another mountain looking down on another beautiful bay

Where are the sheep?

There they are.

Seriously? On the trail?

Someone must have put this guy here to motivate hikers at the end of the day's stage.

Salmon, chips, salad and Coke. Lunch in Sneem, now that I've made it here.

Sneem

I loved this trail because it was flat and surrounded by lots of vegetation. Felt calm and peaceful being here.

An Gailin B&B, a country place.
The owner has horses out back.

They also have a very beautiful pond.

This big guy is Cola and he lives at the b&b. When we first met, he was barking at me and I didn't understand why. Now I do. As soon as I come out the door, he brings over his throw toy.  Between him and me, it's throw and fetch, throw and fetch, throw and fetch. Lol
