Meaningful Moment
Today is a remarkable day. I am taking my first journey on an overseas hike with my son and granddaughter. Carlos and Adriana and I are headed to the Iveragh in the southwest of Ireland.
Another remarkable moment of finally reaching Killarney.
Our rooms are on the outskirts of town, but conveniently on the way to the start of the Kerry way.
After 24 hours of travel by two planes and two busses, we have reached our sleeping point for the night.
Overall the travel went well. As I noted, our first flight diverted to Harrisburg for more fuel. Our second flight arrived 15 minutes before the work crews reported for work so we sat on the tarmac there for a little bit. But both minor inconveniences as it turns out for us.
I must say I was not too impressed with the bus from Dublin to Killarney as it was hot on the bus for the entire four and a half hour ride. No AC. And what passed for a fan really just recirculated hot air.
Right now we are totally veging out from all that travel in a combined coffee shop, wood-fired pizza, empanadas shop. Good music, good atmosphere, smells like good food and has good vibes.
To family and friends, rest assured that I and Carlos and Adriana are chilling out.
Random Thought of the Day
As always I find a check-in process at the airline nerve-wracking, and especially the TSA screening. But I can say all went well, and that makes me a happy man.
Sitting with a dunkin' donuts and coffee as we have several hours before the plane boards to Philadelphia.
It's a long wait but I much prefer to be really early and have lots of time, without pressure, to resolve any issues. But a good start today. So far, so good.
I'm really excited that this is a three generation trip.
So few families do have the opportunities anymore.
I put this in my blog the other day, that when I get really old, I want to say that "I can't believe I did that" instead of "I wish I had".
I called the place we're going to sleep tomorrow night. I made a pre-reservation that means they know we're coming but I didn't book it because I want to wait until the plane lands in Dublin.
I'll be calling them as soon as we get through immigration in Dublin.

For some reason Google Fi took over three hours to detect that I was on Ireland and connect. It wasn't a big deal as I had access to wifi in a lot of places, but it should have been only minutes.
I must say that I was singularly very disappointed in Dublin this morning. There must have been a huge party last night because the debris and litter covered the streets. The smell of spilled alcohol was so strong it was overpowering.
It didn't take long for me to simply want to get on the bus and get going to Killarney.
Took about an hour and a half walk around Killarney while Carlos and Adriana caught up on their sleep. Nice picturesque town but clearly for the tourists. Reminds me of Dingle, only bigger.
