Meaningful Moment
Talked with Deb today.
Today is our 4-year anniversary of our first coffee date at the Little theater where we talked about religion and politics in a light fashion, but then discovered how we both are into language.
As we delved deeper and deeper into language and linguistics and grammar and structure, I still have to laugh at how boring our conversation would have seemed to absolutely anybody else there in the Little Teater coffee shop.
But the only thing that matters is that it worked for us :-)
Random Thought of the Day
Nice to be hiking again. Weather is holding up. Very cloudy but that keeps the Sun from turning everything hot.
Very different experience from the meseta of the Spanish high plains between Madrid and Leon.
For dinner the available meal with an Irish fish stew with green vegetables of broccoli and asparagus plus brown bread. Although the plate looked a little small, I was so full up by the time I finished the meal. It was really good and loaded healthy foods.
While I was standing across the street looking out over the ocean, I could smell the wood burning fireplace from the bed and breakfast drifting out. It was a really nice scent, mixed with the ocean.
On the Road / Notable memories
8:00 a.m. leave The Railway Hostel.
10:10 a.m. bus to Glenbeigh.
11:00 a.m. arrive Glenbeigh and start hiking.
Hiking injury
Incredibly even though I hiked 4 days over 4 mountains for 37 miles, today on relatively flat land that was not challenging, I got my first blister.
Go figure!
Got the treatment done. Cleaned and covered.
Went for a walk after to see if it felt better and it did.
Luckily tomorrow is an easy 9-mile day.
History lesson
Came across a monument to an IRA captain who was murdered by Free State forces when he was a prisoner. This happened in 1923.
The treaty between Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland created the free state in union with the United Kingdom.
The IRA opposed the creation of the Free State.
Memories run deep!
The trail today started with a little excursion through a fairy forest.
If I had a house ... | |
The trail was actually wide enough that I was never concerned. It was quite a different feeling when I was in the Swiss Alps.
It was actually wide enough that it would have served as a cave in case I needed protection against the rain.
Much of today's walking was about looking at the mountains surrounding me.
And now ... Some pretty flower pictures
I simply cannot describe how out of the way on the trail this memorial marker to a murdered political prisoner was. And that it goes so far back in time, illustrates to me once again, how deeply seated the Irish resentment against the British is.
Finally close enough to the coastline to get some of those iconic Irish cliff photos.
If looking at a map, you would think this must be some really big bay. But in fact it's the Atlantic Ocean, with the Dingle peninsula in the background.
From near ground to foreground: Iveragh peninsula, Atlantic Ocean, Dingle peninsula.
Kells | |
It is so absolutely rare to see a brilliant blue sky, or even part of one.
Panorama from the front of Caitins bed and breakfast. |
Outstanding , Love the pics
