Meaningful Moment

On this stage of my Camino Iveragh, I hope to slow it down as I go from place to place and see things as I move along.

In the past I've been focused on distance.

Now I'd like to focus more on actually experiencing something in these places.

Random Thought of the Day

Both yesterday and today started the same way. Late. It makes me anxious to be sitting around instead of walking.

But yesterday I was waiting on bus transport, so I had an easy morning in Killarney before the bus left.

This morning I'm waiting for a sheep dog demonstration right next to the bed and breakfast. After the demo I'll start walking.

***

Thought I was all alone in the B&B last night. Turns out there's a family of six, a group of three adults, a couple and me. Lol

***

In a visual contradiction, just saw a man with a full-on backpack get into the car he was driving.

***

Blister on right foot got worse. Actually I think I got another one on top of the old one. Thought I had done a good job of treatment. I have no idea why the shoes and socks that were flawless in tough mountain conditions, including rain, are failing me now.

After walking around for a while and then getting back to the room, I took another look. I can see now that the toe in question is swollen. I can only imagine that somehow I banged it inside my hiking boot on yesterday's hike.

Because these boots and running shoes and all my socks are seriously battle tested. There has to be an external reason.

On the Road / Notable memories

Watched the sheep herding demonstration next door to the bed and breakfast. Amazing demonstration.

The shepherd showed us how he can have his dogs run way up the side of a mountain ... and these border collies are fast with endurance ... to retrieve sheep, or conversely the border collies can drive the sheep up the mountain.

The shepherd's presentation was excellent with clear diction and appropriate pauses for the interpreters. So much so that I complimented him afterwards on it.

Leaving Caitins B&B on the N70, which is a pretty busy but only two lane road, often without shoulders for pedestrians. It is also known as the Ring of Kerry.

3 mi out from Kells, I turned onto a boreen which headed up into the mountain. There I finally came back to the Kerry Way.

A boreen is a very narrow one lane country road, many times with high hedges then make it almost impossible to see the oncoming car or for them to see you. It can be nerve-wracking.

So one of the things that's different about this portion is my willingness to leave the trail to see or do something. In the past I was much more inclined to stay on the trail.

***

Had pizza and chips for dinner. Once I started the chips, I couldn't stop. It was the salt. I wanted more and more salt. Thinking I'm salt deprived.

***

Sitting in Mike Murt's Bar with a glass of Guinness.
It's quiet and relaxing, and as far as I can tell, I am the only non-Irish person here.

The view today was stunning.

Loved all the blue sky which brings out the vibrancy of the green.

The Kerry Way hours thru this ranch. The cows did not want to yield.

I almost made it all the way through when they started to get possessive. I had to walk all the way back to the entry point and find another way which happened to be about one and a half miles longer.

Sheep herding demo was amazing

The border Collies are screamingly fast and have unbelievable endurance.

They are incredibly alert and attentive.

This man puts on a great show of sheep herding.

These dogs are always on alert.

Here you can see how fast the dogs are and how good they herd the sheep.
