Meaningful Moment

Didn't take any pictures today. Saw lots of beautiful ocean sights, had lots of beautiful opportunities between the mountains and on the mountains. Colorful towns. Just didn't feel like I needed another picture of all that.

A clothes line is one of the simple things in life. But after my clothes getting soaked yesterday, the thought of my clothes drying on the line in the sun and the wind back at the hostel while I'm at the pub having a Guinness is strangely calming .

Random Thought of the Day

For 3 days now ever since Kells, I've been doing pretty much walking along one lane roads for the hike. Today I'm hoping to get off the roads.
This happened all by my choice because of the particular places I've decided to go visit off the Kerry way.

Booked accommodations for Sneem and Kenmare this morning. These are the last two stops on the Kerry way. Guess there's a plane ticket in my future now.

This is the hottest day it's been so far. Sun is out and I'm sweating shortly after starting.

For planning purposes, the last two stages are respectively about 13 mi and 18 mi. (That does not include the final days hike back to Killarney.) I did not want my last day of hiking to be the long one, so I've made reservations at a place 18 mi away tomorrow so that I have a shorter 12 mi hike the day after.

I think a fair number of people skip that last day back to Killarney because half of it was already walked on the way out. Don't know what I'm going to do yet.

Booked a flight home

So I just booked that flight out of Shannon airport back to Rochester New York for next Wednesday. Leaving around 12:30 p.m. from Shannon Ireland and arriving around 7:30 p.m. for Rochester New York.

No money, no room

Finally made it to the hostel. They don't take credit cards. There's no ATM in town. I don't have enough money to pay for the room.

Fortunately the pub in town gives cash back. Time to go to the pub.
All I did was present the card, and presto, I have €50 and a Guinness.
Lol

Important hostel considerations

Eileen, the hostel hostess, has been really nice to me. Most importantly, she showed me where the clothesline is and gave me extra pins.
After yesterday's soaking, I have a lot of clothes that need to just hang in the fresh air.

As she was checking me into the four-person dorm room, I realized that I was just tired and wanted to be alone tonight.

I think I had this fear that the other three men in the room were probably working class, beer drinking, ready to party hombres.

They're probably fellow hikers, but I paid the extra for guaranteed alone time.

I can't be lost

Regarding the first picture below:

That big loop in the middle of the hike was a classic getting lost.

The signs for Kerry Way were misleading to me, although on closer examination, I should have figured it out.

Anyway halfway through that big circle, I knew something was wrong so I knocked on the house of a lady who knew exactly what had happened.

Camino Angel. She was nice enough to give me a lift back to the spot where I missed the turn.

The big circle in the map is a wrong turn.

Travelers Rest Hostel

Caherdaniel is a very small village, but the pub is hopping!

The Blind Piper Pub

I love how Irish direction signs have so much more personality.
It's the colors.

At the end of the night as I was leaving the pub I came across this very very small passage. When I walked to the bottom, I saw this pretty evening scene.
